California Community Colleges

The California Community Colleges is the largest system of higher education in the nation. It is composed of 72 districts and 114 colleges serving 2.1 million students per year. Community colleges supply workforce training, basic skills courses in English and math, and prepare students for transfer to four-year colleges and universities. The Chancellor’s Office provides leadership, advocacy and support under the direction of the Board of Governors of the California Community Colleges.

Doing What Matters for Jobs and the Economy

The Doing What MATTERS for Jobs and the Economy framework invests funding and resources in industry sectors that are key to California’s economic growth. Its industry specific workforce services are coordinated through a system of sector specialists that align community college and other workforce development resources with the needs of industry sectors and occupational clusters through a regional focus. The goal is to invest in the skills of California’s workforce–now and in the future–through partnerships with business and industry that result in highly specialized industry training, technical consulting and business development. The end result is to meet industry’s need for skilled workers.

Foundation for California Community Colleges

The Foundation is the official 501(c)(3) non-profit auxiliary of the California Community Colleges' Board of Governors and Chancellor's Office. The Foundation’s mission is to benefit, support, and enhance the California Community College system by providing effective services and innovative solutions that reach all 114 Community Colleges and 72 districts.

For more than a decade, the Foundation has provided work-based learning opportunities for youth and recruitment solutions for employers through its Career Catalyst program. The Foundation’s paid internship services simplify the process of hosting student interns at companies or organizations—from the early stages of creating positions and recruiting candidates to providing programmatic and administrative support. The Foundation has affiliations with high schools throughout the state, as well as all three public systems of higher education in California. These affiliations allow employers to connect with an unmatched pool of California’s future talent and build their workforce pipeline. We have placed over 3,500 students with employers for paid internship positions throughout the state.
